Welcome to my blog! First and foremost, my greatest thanks and inspiration MUST go to Miss Jacqueline Montaperto and Miss Charlotte Bullen, two of the most inspirational people I have been lucky enough to meet. Their beautiful blog is the main inspiration behind me setting up my own, nothing in comparison to theirs I must add, but they have shown me thatit is an invaluable way to keep in touch across continents: - and so, in an attempt to document and capture the essence of my time in the incredible city of Hong Kong, I hope you will enjoy sharing in it all with me.

First and foremost, a bit about me and how I have found myself in Hong Kong.

I have just graduated from the University of St Andrews, in International Relations. My four wonderful years studying in this beautiful Scottish seaside town allowed me amongst other things, an opportunity to take classes on China and its politics and environment subsequently became the focal points of my final year dissertation. Having explored both teaching and travelling as post graduate options, wanting to become a primary school teacher but with an equal desire to travel and experience new places and cultures, the opportunity to do a years teaching in Hong Kong seemed the perfect mix of both and I jumped at the chance to experience first hand what I find to be one of the most exciting and fascinating parts of the world.

The programme I enrolled on is the Chatteris International Graduate Program making me a Chatteris Native-speaking English Tutor (CNET) for the academic year 2009 - May 2010.

Chatteris Educational Foundation is a non governmental organisation based in the education sector of Hong Kong that aims to place native English speaking graduates in schools around the city in order to raise the level of English spoken in Hong Kong schools and the confidence of the students in speaking English as well as working with the local community through a multitude of volunteer programs. For a much more comprehensive insight in to what the scheme entails, please follow the link to the website, (www.chatteris.org.hk) or you can watch this video.

  1. Hi Hannah,

I am a current student at the University of St Andrews and just now I am working as an intern in the University Careers Centre. My work involves analysing the most popular graduate destinations for UK students, and you may be interested to know that Chatteris came out as one of the most popular destinations within the education sector. My research brought me to their website and thus to your blog.

We at the Careers Centre would love to hear from you as we are currently seeking to feature more graduate case studies on our website. Here is a link to that if you are interested http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/careers/wiki/Category:Work_Experience_profiles Your insight would also be very useful for my own intern report.

In addition, we are looking for more alumni contacts to feature on CAN (Careers Alumni Network) and our LinkedIn Group- St Andrews Alumni Mentorship programme. Current students really appreciate being able to contact alumni for advice, and alumni contacts within the education sector are particularly needed as teaching is proving such a popular career choice.

I would love to hear from you soon you can contact me on kln7@st-andrews.ac.uk. And your blog is great by the way!
