Sunday 6th Septemberr - Come On Tai Chung!
On Sunday afternoon, a group of us trooped to the Hong Kong Stadium in Causeway Bay to watch the opening match of the Hong Kong football season. Cooper had rallied a group of supporters to go and watch her boyfriend Lex play his first match in Hong Kong with his team, Tai Chung. We sat in the front row and cheered, heckled, yelled, and booed (all very commmon for football matches where we were all from) but in Hong Kong it appears football match watching is a bit more of a reserved affair. The security guards seemed to spot us almost instantly, and one of them subsequently placed his stool right in front of our row throughout the match! However, apart from that, we got quite a lot of interest from local papers and even ESPN came to do an interview and find out what we thought about the different players...to which we replied the only information we knew about the team which was quite minimal! I think we were quite a picture at the Hong Kong stadium opening match that afternoon, with most of the spectators being local men who seemed much more reserved and who were probably less than amused to have us reciting and adapting our home football chants for the Hong Kong football season. In spite of the score ending sadly at 4 - 0 to the opposing team, South China, we all had a great afternoon and I have a feeling we may be quite avid followers for the rest of the season (as long as we are not barred..~) (Michael Folan I hope you are proud!)
