Tai Chi
Tai Chi. The park near our guest house is amazing. It is ALWAYS busy. Despite it being quite small, surrounded on all sides by roads, and buildings and a severe lack of any greenery, whether you come at 7am, or 11pm you see people here. In the two weeks we were there, I saw practicing church gospel choirs, badminton played over a climbing frame, morning tai chi which saw the basketball court filled with elderly men and women moving as if in slow motion, and surrounding them people practicing their own versions complete with swords and other props! It was an awe inspiring sight, how active these people considering how busy and hot it is. The martial art of tai chi is practiced everywhere in the mornings in every small tiny space around hong kong and its slow, gentle and ordered and tranquillity and silenced of the movement seems incongruous with the bustle and the moment surrounding them on all sides. It is supposed to be good for stamina, and flexibility and for balance and coordination, as well as being a useful meditation which looks extremely effective as they appear calm and composed and immune to the hustle and bustle of city life around them… apparently the Hong Kong tourist boars offers free lessons…watch this space!
